Deepa, a devout Hindu woman living in Mumbai, has been a widow for two years. Her only desire now is to see her daughter Tara married so that she can die in peace. But when she starts receiving romantic advances from her recently divorced neighbor Vinod (who is also her son’s best friend), she starts to see the benefits of living.
“Rasaka is proud to be a part of the Resident Theater Program and of Victory Gardens’ diverse and inspiring artistic community,” Rasaka’s Producing Artistic Director Kamal Hans said. “We are excited about producing A Widow of No Importance, continuing with our examination of relationships, traditions and culture within the South Asian culture. I have enjoyed working with Shane and reading his plays for quite some time and am thrilled we are collaborating on this project. For our audiences, this play will be a treat that transports them into modern Mumbai, where they enjoy the roller coaster ride through strongly held cultural norms.”
